Description
A person who did not want to stay here was Cesar Ritz, the legendary hotelier who was born in Niederried. A fountain now commemorates his career from rags to riches. Who knows, perhaps he would have stayed if he had known that tourism would boom here one day.
The hiking tour starts where the Glacier Express disappears into the mountain, in Oberwald. The hiking trail to Niederried follows the left side of the Rhone, which is called “Rottu” by the local population. The villages lie on the opposite side. An excursion is always possible. The path along the Rhone is also a popular winter hiking tour. Although the Upper Goms is considered snow-assured, it does not receive a lot of precipitation – a benefit for the hiker.
