Ridge Hike Over the Hundsrügg


The hiking area of Gstaad - Saanenmöser always has some visual surprises and spectacular views onto mountains galore. The ridge hike from Rellerligrat to the Jaun Pass, via Hundsrügg, is no exception.

Technical information

Starting point: Aerial cable-car Rellerligrat.
Destination: Jaun Pass.
Take the aerial cable-car from Schönried to the top of Rellerligrat; return by bus from Jaun Pass to Boltigen and from there, by train back to Schönried via Zweisimmen.
Walking time: 3 h 40 min
Season: June through October
Altitude difference: 350 m ascent and 670 m descent
Condition: intermediate to difficult

Start the hike with a nine-minute aerial cable-car ride from Schönried to the Rellerligrat. The ridge hike starts out in direction Hugeligrat, then goes to Planihubel and on to Alp Bire. Then begins the ascent to the Hundsrügg. Near the highest point, the trail narrows considerably but is never dangerous. From the Hundsrügg the vistas are breath-taking: one can indeed see the alpine world of Lake Geneva and Fribourg to the West all the way to the Bernese Alps in one sweeping view. Then follows a lengthier descent via Oberenegg, from where one has wonderful views of the Simmen Valley, home to the famous cows of the same name.
