Clock Tower (Zytglogge)
Architecture – The Zytglogge (Clock Tower) was the city's first West Gate (1191 - 1256). The artistic astronomical calendar clock and the figure movement were created in 1530. These functioned as the city's main clock. Each day many visitors admire the hourly chimes and procession of the figures. Today the Zytglogge is one of the most important and most beautiful sights of Bern.
Bern’s unique cityscape – distinguished by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1983 – is shaped by the city’s cosmopolitan charm.
