Chillon Castle

The most famous fortress in Switzerland, the Château de Chillon is one of the most beautiful historical buildings in the country and is one of the most frequently-visited sights in Europe. It was constructed in the 13th century over foundations that were even older. The castle is by the lake and at the foot of a hill, and the attraction is therefore twofold: it is a lakeside fortress on one side and a royal residence on the other.

Chillon Castle is located on a rock on the banks of Lake Geneva. The water castle is the most visited historic building in Switzerland. For nearly four centuries Chillon was the residence and profitable toll station of the Counts of Savoy.
