In 1974, the building was stripped to reveal its original timber framing. The fine guest lounge still dates principally from the 19th century.

Large conservatory, sunny terrace, diverse rooms for meetings or festive gatherings and a cuisine focussing on regional products and vegetarian dishes. Hiking trails and ski slopes are within walking distance.

Between June and September, you can peer over the shoulders of charburners on the charburner trail and they’ll be delighted to show you how charcoal is made. The 4-hour Romoos und Bramboden walking trail shows a cross-section through the Napf upland. Seven special information boards detailing the particular features of the charcoal kiln have been erected en route.

In the agriculturally shaped Romoos municipality in Lucerne’s Entlebuch, the last of Switzerland’s charcoal workers carry out the ancient craft on professional basis as an additional job.
