Embedded between the nearby Alps and rolling Jura hills, the city of Geneva lies in the bight where the Rhone flows from Lake Geneva. Owing to its humanitarian nature, this international city is known as “Capital of peace“.
After a majestic path between fields and vineyards with view of Lake Léman, the small path along the brook of Hermance appears cosy and intimate in comparison. It leads to the small village of Hérmance with its old streets, its harbor, beach and terraces.
This walk starts in the heart of Geneva, passing through a particularly charming corner of the city on its way to the Rhone and out into the countryside. For long stretches it follows the river bank, which is home to over seventy animal species and is one of the best protected areas in Switzerland.
