The bent, almost banana-shaped Lake Zürich is framed on the southern side by the Albis and Zimmerberg hills and on the north by the Pfannenstiel chain of hills. The lake is bordered by the cantons of Zürich, St.Gallen and Schwyz. At the western end lies Zürich, Switzerland’s largest city.
The idyllic hilly countryside around the lake, the medieval castle of Hallwyl with its heritage exhibitions, and the romantic boat trips round the lake make Lake Hallwil and the nearby Seetal valley a small but popular tourist area.
The first nature experiences park in Switzerland offers a unique combination of forest, wilderness and animals. The Wilderness Park Zürich is home to the Sihlwald forest, a visitor centre with museum in the Sihlwald forest and the Langenberg peak.
