At 9000 hectares, the second largest area of moorland in Switzerland. It extends from the Beatenberg in the canton of Bern to far into the Entlebuch region in the canton of Lucerne. The landscape is dominated by the contrast between the gently rolling moors and the precipitous limestone peaks (Hohgant, Schrattenfluh). Good starting points for visiting the area are S├Ârenberg, Habkern/Lombachalp or Kemmeribodenbad.

A challenging hike, love of nature and culinary delights are combined in an ideal manner on this mountain trek from Habkern via Mt. Hohgant to the famous spa resort, Kemmeriboden Bad.

The mighty Hohgant rises at the borderline between Entlebuch and Bernese Oberland, guarding the entrance to the High Alps. A very rewarding but at the same time challenging tour takes you from Habkern to the Furggeng├╝tsch, opening up a panoramic vista of the Alps, Mittelland and the Jurassic mountains.

Hohgant Hut

The cozy, remote hut is located at 1,805 meters in the Hohgant-Seefeld nature reserve, on the border from Emmental to the Oberland, between Kemmeriboden and Habkern. The charming wooden building can be reached on various routes taking between in 1 hour 30 minutes up to 4 hours. There are 24-30 dormitory beds. Reservations are mandatory. The hut does not have a warden, but beverages and a wood-burning stove are available. Poor mobile phone reception.
