An excursion to the grottoes and the prehistoric park of Réclère is nearly like Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth". The large limestone cave with stalactites and stalagmites gives the excursion the necessary atmosphere and the life-sized dinosaurs in the park are the climax of a fascinating trip through time.
For over 100 years asphalt was laboriously mined in the underground asphalt mines of La Presta and exported all over the world for road construction. Today the mines are no longer in operation and are partially open to the public as a museum.
Niklaus von Flüe lived from 1417 until 1487, first as a farmer and councilman, then as a hermit in the Ranft Ravine. The mystic and peacemaker, who was canonized in 1947, is Switzerland's national saint and the patron of numerous churches.
