More Hiking Suggestions – Walk along the Jakobsweg from Thun to Gwatt and on via Amsoldingen to Wattenwil

The walk from Thun to Wattenwil leads in a wide sweep first along Lake Thun and then through an undulating area across into the Gürbetal valley. There are fantastic views of the mountains of the Bernese Oberland all along the way. At first, your gaze is drawn to the Niesen, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, with the lake glittering in the sunshine in the foreground. Later, the walk is dominated by the rocky dome of the Stockhorn. In the area between Thun and the Stockhorn range is a string of little or even tiny lakes that are popular tourist spots, especially at weekends.

Romantic little Gantrisch lake

Mountain lakes – Little mountain lake at 1578 m. Until just a few years ago, the Gantrischseeli was almost entirely silted up, but now thanks to some very committed volunteers it is once again a rewarding place to come to for a short mountain walk. Start from the Untere Gantrischhütte at 1510 m. The path takes you past cows and goats into the nature conservation area around the lake. Don't forget your binoculars for spying out chamois!

Cross-country skiing against the Gantrisch panorama

Cross-Country Skiing – 45 km of cross-country ski trails for traditional skiing and skating combine the main departure points: Schwarzenbühl/Selital, Ottenleuebad and the Gurnigel water divide. The network is supplemented by several somewhat more demanding secondary routes. The cross-country ski trails with reliable snowfalls and views of the Gantrisch range, Lake Thun and the Alps are suitable for dedicated sportspersons as well as amateur cross-country skiers.
