Grimsel gneiss and Glacial Ice

Glaciers – The Oberaar Lake often contains ice floes which is not further surprising given that the water comes directly from the nearby glacier.

The Grimsel area is a landscape of ancient stone and primeval forces. This pass has always been used to cross from North to South or vice-versa. It also constitutes the watershed between the North Sea and the Mediterranean and offers some spectacular hikes, ranging from easy strolls to challenging climbs on the vertical granite walls.
