Niklaus von Flüe lived from 1417 until 1487, first as a farmer and councilman, then as a hermit in the Ranft Ravine. The mystic and peacemaker, who was canonized in 1947, is Switzerland's national saint and the patron of numerous churches.

Hammetschwand lift and Felsenweg path

It created an absolute sensation when the hotel and railroad pioneer Franz-Josef Bucher-Durrer built the Hammetschwand lift at the Bürgenberg in 1905.

The 152.8 meter-high lift to the Bürgenstock looks like a heaven-bound rocket.
