The holiday region of Disentis Sedrun is located in upper Surselva at the source of the Rhine. Its Alpine nature and Rhaeto-Romanic culture make it an interesting destination. The Benedictine monastery in Disentis is particularly worth a visit.
At 1679 meters Mont Tendre is the highest peak in the Swiss Jura and offers the finest 360 degree panoramic vista. The Mont Tendre Trail takes 5 hours from Col du Mollendruz, ascending 500 metres to Mont Tendre and leading gently back down to Col du Marchairuz.
With 39 tunnels, 55 bridges and a difference in altitude of 1123 metres, the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway between Thusis and St. Moritz is a masterpiece of railway engineering. It was opened in 1903 after having been under construction for 5 years. The section between Preda and Bergün is one of the most spectacular stretches in the world and is a prime example of how the high alpine landscape was opened up.
The internationally-renowned Convent of St. John in Müstair enjoys UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listing and owes its existence and uniqueness to Charlemagne. It is one of the few existing architectural examples from the Carolingian period.
