The ViaRhenana, one of Switzerland's longest hiking trails, runs for ten days along the historic waterway between Untersee and Hochrhein. The fourth stage takes four hours from Schaffhausen to Rheinau with its baroque monastery church.
At 1679 meters Mont Tendre is the highest peak in the Swiss Jura and offers the finest 360 degree panoramic vista. The Mont Tendre Trail takes 5 hours from Col du Mollendruz, ascending 500 metres to Mont Tendre and leading gently back down to Col du Marchairuz.
With 39 tunnels, 55 bridges and a difference in altitude of 1123 metres, the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway between Thusis and St. Moritz is a masterpiece of railway engineering. It was opened in 1903 after having been under construction for 5 years. The section between Preda and Bergün is one of the most spectacular stretches in the world and is a prime example of how the high alpine landscape was opened up.
