Maienfeld in the Bündner Herrschaft inspired the poetess Johanna Spyri to write her novels about Heidi. The hiking trail takes you through the vineyards to Heidi Land. Mountain walkers climb to the Ochsenberg. Heidi's house, the goat stable, village shop and museum – all are based on Heidi's story.

Illgraben-Bhutan Bridge

Erosion caused the mountain to collapse and the vast, pale yellow and reddish rock basin to form, which becomes bigger every year. From the Grabenrad or the Illhorn (2,716 m) there are "fear inspiring" yet stunning views down into the Rhone valley.

The circular route follows the (mostly dry) bed of the Wildbach to the Bhutan Bridge and the Güetji viewing pulpit. Return to Susten along the other side of the trench.
