It was opened in 1903 after having been under construction for 5 years. The section between Preda and Bergün is one of the most spectacular stretches. The Historic Railway Trail follows this stretch.

The section between Preda and Bergün is one of the most spectacular stretches in the world and is a prime example of how the high alpine landscape was opened up.
