Emosson – railways and reservoir

Three unusual trains take visitors to the Emossen Reservoir Lake. Even getting to Emossen by taking the train from Martigny towards Chamonix, traveling through the almost impassable ravine, is an adventure.

Four scenic railways lead to the Emosson reservoir. And adventure commences in Martigny, on through the cut out Trient Valley, finally arriving at the 180 meter-high dam walls.

Café- Restaurant de Plan-Cerisier

This restaurant is situated above Martigny in a small paradise that is protected by law. Valais specialities are: Raclette, fondue, cheese platter and brisolée (in autumn). In summer, salad buffet and barbecue. Extensive selection of regional wines (30 specialities white and red).

Martigny – Leuk Wine Trail

This wine trail leads through the Valais vineyards from Martigny to Leuk. There are three versions: a footpath, a bike trail, and a road for vehicles. Wines can be tasted without appointment at many points along the route. One section of the footpath (3 or 4 days’ hiking in all) is the Vineyard Path from Sierre to Salgesch, with its informative wine museum.

Opened in spring 2007, the wine trail is an ideal way to discover the Valais and birthplace of some delightfully palatable regional wines.

Chez Gaby

This is a typical alpine chalet converted to a country inn and hostel where guests are made to feel at home amid comfortable surroundings. Specialities of the house are grilled Tomme, feta salad and the "pierrade". Those with a sweet tooth to indulge will always find fresh blueberry tart and whipped cream waiting for them.
