Idyllic Lake Seelisberg nestles in a hollow at the foot of Niederbauen mountain, at an altitude of 738m.
“Haus zur Treib” is today a restaurant. It dates back to the year 1658 and can be reached by funicular or via a narrow road from Seelisberg. Haus zur Treib is adjacent to a landing stage of the Lake Lucerne fleet. The historic locale, which is protected from the strong Föhn winds, served from 1482 onward as the meeting place of the old Swiss Confederation. The old assembly room is open to visitors.
This beautifully designed hiking trail leading from Mt. Rütli via Flüelen and Sisikon to Brunnen was a gift by the cantons to the people of Switzerland on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the Rütli Oath. The route is rich in wonderful views and meanders along the river through forests, across meadows and well-laid out picnic spots. Benches and fountains invite you to rest awhile.
