The Trans Swiss Trail is the first long distance hiking trail developed for tourists which traverses Switzerland from North to South. There are many possibilities for overnight stays at hotels and inns throughout the trail, and luggage transfer between the stages of the route is offered daily.
The city of Porrentruy (Pruntrut in German) in the Jura is considered to be the cultural center of the region. The cityscape is dominated by the mighty medieval castle, which served as the residence of the prince bishops of Basel for 200 years.
The diversity of the rocky substratum, the forests, pools, rivers and limestone plateaus means that Ajoie, although it looks small on the map of Switzerland, has a rich and stunning landscape.
