Bern Bear Park

The bear pit, Bern's emblem, has been transformed into a large bear park. Opened on 25 October 2009, the new bear park boasts an environment in which the bears can climb, fish and play – but there is also an area into which they can withdraw for privacy. The terrain is about 6,000 m2 in size and stretches from the current bear pit down to the banks of the Aare River. A walkway runs through the middle of the terrain down to the riverside path on the banks of the Aare, making it possible for visitors to enjoy a fascinating insight into the life of bears. With the help of infrared cameras, the bears can also be observed at night.

The Bern Bear Pit is an attraction that is known far beyond the borders of Switzerland. Since 2009 the bears of Bern also have a modern 6,000 square meters park at their disposal that they can reach via a tunnel.
