The Furka mountain route was supposed to be shut down. Since the opening of the Furka base tunnel in the year 1982 it is actually no longer required. The train route, which is a sight worth seeing, was preserved thanks to a private initiative.
The name of the village, Gletsch, says it all: it is clearly a place near a glacier. And indeed, that was once the case.
Creating electricity from water is wonderful technology: hidden in the mountains, built for generations and absolutely safe. A pleasure for visitors to experience.
