Ruined monastery – former Cluniac priory

In the Middle Ages, one of the most important monastery buildings in Switzerland and an important stopping place on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. After the Reformation, the monastery, already partly in ruins, was finally closed. It was used only as a source of stone, and sometimes as a barn. Today, the magnificent ruins are used for cultural events, and walkers on the way to Santiago like to visit it as a source of strength and an impressive sight.

Scenic trail

Gurnigel – Gägger – Pfyffe – Tollhouse. In 2008 this 18-km-long trail was reconstructed and widened in stages, so that practically along its entirety, two people can walk abreast and hold a conversation. The well-signposted trail is easily accessible by public transport and car. A 4.5 hour walk guaranteed to be enjoyable with a high likelihood of being re-visited.

Gantrisch circular walk

Mountain walk across wide mountain pastures, steep pass crossings and craggy ridges. Starting from the water divide, the tour leads through the Alpine basin of the Nünenenberg, past the Nünenenflue, and further along a beautiful pack trail up to the ridge height of Leiteren. Crossing to the Morgete ridge and descent towards Gantrischseeli. 5-hour circular walk; start points, water divide or lower Gantrisch hut.
