Bern’s landmark, the "Bear Pit" is changing into a large Bear Park.
In the new Bear Park the bears will have a landscape that allows them to climb, fish and play to their hearts content - and where they can also retire to a peaceful abode. The approximately 6000 square meter grounds extend from today’s Bear Pit up to the banks of the Aare River down below. A walking trail for visitors leads across the park up to the path alongside the Aare River. Thanks to infrared cameras, the bears can also be observed after dark.

New city tour, "Bern and the Bears"

Has the Bear Pit always been at the same location? Do Bernese gourmet restaurants really still serve bear meat, or is that just a myth? The new city tour, "Bern and the Bears," offers answers to these and countless other questions, rumors and stories circulating on the subject of bears. The official tour begins daily at 1:30 pm at the Tourist Center at Bern's main train station and ends on the grounds of the Bear Park. The tour is offered in the languages German, French and English. Individual tours can also be booked at any time.
