Bellinzona, a medieval city with Lombardic austerity and a gate to the South, has an impressive silhouette. There are three castles - Castelgrande, Castello di Montebello and Castello di Sasso Corbaro, built by Lombardic rulers in the 13th century, appropriated by Swiss confederates in the 15th century and renovated with great expertise in the 20th century.
