The slowest fast express train in the World - The Glacier Express travels on the famous Swiss mountain railways from St.Moritz to Zermatt and vice versa or from Piz Bernina to the Matterhorn. A 7½ hour panoramic railway journeying a beautiful route between the sights of the Graubünden holiday region, central Switzerland, including Lake Lucerne and Lucerne itself, the sunny Valais region with its glacier landscape, and the beautiful regions of the South. On board the Glacier Express, meals are prepared specially for you by the chef in the dining car. Coffee, drinks and snacks are brought to your seat by our Railbar staff. The Glacier Express - Glistening mountains in Summer, fairytale landscapes deep in snow in Winter, magical carpets of flowers in the Spring and a splendid tapestry of colours in Autumn.

Carriages

First Class panorama viewing cars - These wagons have oversized windows, which extend into the roof cove, provide all-round panoramic views. Each carriage has 48 seats with tables and central air conditioning. Along the route, the most important features are described in a taped commentary in German, English and French.

First Class - These coaches have a conventional design with 36 seats. These wagons have windows that let in fresh alpine air and with it bring in the sounds and smells of Switzerland.

Second Class - Here you have wagons with 56 seats. They are very comfortable and are ideal if large groups are traveling together. They have windows, which can be opened to let in the fresh and crisp mountain air.

Surcharges - Seat reservations are mandatory for the Glacier Express and the dining car. Seats can be booked at any station in Switzerland. There is the option of paying the surcharge for only seat reservations excluding meals. The reservation fee must be added to the corresponding ticket price and paid in full by every passenger - irrespective of ticket category. Exceptions are children under six years old for whom no seat is required.

Rail Gourmet - The journey takes a whole day, hence catering for the guests must be planned. The Dining car is usually available on specified legs of the journey. Exact information regarding the stations between which dining cars are provided is available at the rail stations. At the Dining Car on the Glacier Express reservation is compulsory. The Three course meal comprises of salad (Summer) or soup (Winter), meat with vegetables and side dishes, dessert or a selection of cheeses. Drinks are not included in the price. There is also the option of the Dish of the day comprising of meat with vegetables and side dishes. Railbar Glacier Express - All Glacier Express trains feature a Rail bar. Stewards and stewardesses serve drinks as well as snacks and sweets at the passenger’s seat.

In 2006 a New Glacier Express (Premium) will operate from St. Moritz/Zermatt The new Glacier Express will run from St. Moritz to Zermatt and in the opposite direction. The new trains are distinguished by increased passenger comfort. Free information on the section in six languages with headphones.
