Starting in Lucerne on the Paddle Steamer for 3 hours you disembark in Fluelen where you board the air-conditioned train of the Swiss Federal Railways to travel through steep ravines and the Reuss Valley, to arrive at Lugano or Locarno. The Wilhelm Tell operates between May and October only.
Enjoy an excellent meal while tuckering along the impressive coastline of Lake Lucerne. Once the boat has reached Flüelen, the crew will say good-bye. Step off the boat and onto the comfort of a first-class panorama train (2nd-class also available) for a ride through the steep ravines and the precipitous cliffs of the Reuss Valley that will whisk you via the spectacular 15-kilometer long Gotthard tunnel. This part of the journey takes about 2hrs. Countless spiral and horseshoe tunnels, galleries and bridges testify to the remarkable achievements of the men who built this masterpiece of civil engineering. Then, after the 10-minute tunnel passage, you’ll arrive in Ticino, where Italian is spoken. In the Leventina Valley, the Wilhelm Tell Express crosses breathtaking cantilevered bridges and passes charming villages on its way to Bellinzona. From here, the next leg is to Locarno or Lugano.
The Wilhelm Tell Express runs twice a day from May – October. Compulsory reservation is required. The Wilhelm Tell can be reserved 60 days prior to the train departure date. There is a surcharge to be paid for the seat and meal reservation. A wholesome Central Swiss lunch is served onboard the train. Whilst traveling a detailed journey documentation and multilingual commentary is also available. All patrons also receive a 'Wilhelm Tell Souvenir'.
