The aerial cable car from Surlej-Silvaplana to the Corvatsch tempts the rider towards superlatives. Together, both sections convey the guest from 1,877 to 3,305 meters; the deep blue sky of the Engadine seems close enough to touch. The view down to Lake Sils and to Piz Bernina with the Bianco Ridge is incomparable.
Since the 1997/1998 Winter Season the Upper Engadine’s Piz Corvatsch can be reached with the new 150-seat Jumbo Aerial Cable Car. However, the completely new cable car takes you only to the Murtèl mid-station. Once you are on Piz Corvatsch you will continue on with the “old” cable car, which “only” seats 80. The panorama from the 3,303-meter Piz Corvatsch is colossal – all the Engadine mountain giants such as Piz Bernina (4,049m), Piz Roseg (3,937 m) and Piz Morteratsch (3,751m) line up like soldiers in a row. In the foreground is the ice-hump of Piz Murtèl (3,433m), which can be ascended without problems in fine weather via a well-trodden path. Countless other hiking opportunities exist near the Murtèl mid-station, including for example, the popular tour to Fuorcla Surlej and through the Roseg Valley to Pontresina.
Access:
Silvaplana in the Upper Engadine can be reached by public transportation via St. Moritz. By car it is accessible from St. Moritz or the Maloja Pass.
