Like the teeth of a mighty saw, the seven Churfirsten form the jagged horizon on the south side of Upper Toggenburg. The highest peak in the parade of Churfirsten peaks is the 2306-meter Mount Hinterrugg. Its immediate neighbor, the Chäserrugg, is only 44 meters lower and can be conquered by high rope.
From Unterwasser (906 meters) near Wildhaus the funicular rolls up to the Iltios mid-station. Here you will transfer to a gondola, which in a daring sweep climbs up the second highest peak of the Churfirsten chain. After arrival some may wonder why one can walk here on almost level ground through the pastures, while the mighty jugged peaks of the neighboring mountains point threateningly towards the sky.
An irresistible attraction on the Chäserrugg is no doubt the fascinating sight deep down to Lake Walen. The mountain faces drop almost vertically here.

Since 1934, the Iltios has been easily accessed via Unterwasser by funicular railroad. Today this place is a mid-station and the starting point of an 8-minute ride by aerial cableway up the Chäserrugg.
Access:
You can drive to Toggenburg from Wil or Rapperswil via Wattwil or from the Rhine Valley near Buchs. PostBuses are available at the train stations of Nesslau and Buchs.
