As early as 1939, a local committee planned in cooperation with the Schweizer Reisekasse to open up the popular Mount Chochstuckli using mountain trains. Only after World War II, around 1950, was the chairlift Sattel-Mostelberg constructed and started operating in the beginning of the summer. The train model chosen at that time (chairlift with protective cover) was a novelty in the market. The company flourished and was able to achieve a positive cash flow already in the first year of operation.
Several winters with less snow at the end of the 1980s and additional competition by newly opened areas caused existential problems for the company.
After an increase in capital, a progressive strategy was conceived with the construction of the summer toboggan run “Stuckli Run” in 1993. This saved the company from closing down.
Together with the world famous cable car company Garaventa, the Sattel-Hochstuckli sets new standards for the mountain transportation experience. One sits comfortably in the generously built cabins and enjoys the wonderful panorama during the rides up and down the mountain, while thanks to intricate cable car technology the gondolas revolve twice around their axis.
