Opposite the Rütli, the cradle of the Swiss Confederation, on the eastern shore of Lake Urnersee, rise steeply the rock faces of the three mountains, Klingenstock, Huserstock and Fronalpstock. For panoramic views, the Fronalpstock (1922m), which was opened up by a cableway, does not take second place after its northern neighbors, Pilatus, Rigi or Bürgenstock. To the contrary, without the hustle and bustle of tourist areas one can devote oneself completely to the 360-degree panorama. On the eastern side of Fronalpstock, where the gondola ascends, one can hike leisurely down via Alpine meadows and via the Frontal Valley to Stoos (1300m) – past the catered Alp Laui, where the dairy farmer serves you coffee and his famous rarebit.
On the summit of the Fronalpstock there is a new mountain hut, which aside from meals also offers accommodation. In the summer and in winter the chairlift departs from Stoos.
