A ride on the nostalgic chairlift is the ideal ascent: in barely fifteen minutes one reaches Solothurn’s local mountain (1280m) comfortably.
The 15-minute ride with the nostalgic 2-seater chairlift is truly impressive. One sits crosswise and enjoys the countryside. In the "Nesselboden" mid-station one can enter or disembark. Currently the train is fighting for its survival. This comes as no surprise because there is a Pass Road over the Weissenstein and on the summit there are plenty of parking spaces. From the Weissenstein you will enjoy a wonderful view over the Mittelland up to the Alps – a magnificent panorama from Mt. Säntis to Mont Blanc.
The Weissenstein is ideal for short walks on the plateau and it is also the starting point for hiking tours of several days in the Jura Mountains.
As a new operating license is due in 2009, and since updating the old train is very costly, the operators are planning a new all-weather train. They envisage an ecologically sound and modern transportation system.
