After disembarking from the ship at Beatenbucht, one can hop on the funicular heading to Beatenberg, which is called “the world’s longest village”. Located at 1,200 meters, it is about seven kilometers long. Formerly there was a chairlift from the center of the village to the 1,949-meter Niederhorn. Today you can reach the summit on an aerial ropeway located to the west. The silver-grey gondolas need 15 minutes to cover 2,493 meters.
At the summit one stands in a magical Alpine landscape – offering a wonderful view of the giant mountain trio of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and many other mountains. After a walk to the northern vantage point, which is equipped with a panoramic map and a telescope, one is rewarded with a view of the Justis Valley.
