Villars-sur-Ollon
Villars-sur-Ollon
The Red Train from Bex to Villars-sur-Ollon and on to the Col de Bretaye has been in operation for over 100 years. In summer and in winter the offerings are enhanced by the gondola train from Villars/Chésières zum Roc d'Orsay and by the one running between Barboleuse and Les Chaux. The hill tract between the Vaudoise Rhone Valley and Les Diablerets is known for its diverse hiking trails, panoramic views and its mountain restaurants.
The Red Train starts hourly from middle of the village of Villars-sur-Ollon on its 20-minute ride via Col de Soud and past the scenic golf course to Col de Bretaye. What make the mountain train so special is that the GA-owners and visitors from abroad travel for free with the Swiss Pass.

From the terminus, located at 1806 meters, one can embark on a rewarding hike to the 2112-meter Chamossaire, which offers a panoramic view extending from Lake Geneva to Diablerets and further on to Mont Blanc. A leisurely walking tour takes you to Lac des Chavonnes, where a white dragon resides that has been guarding a hidden treasure since the Middle Ages. Today a culinary delicacy in the lakeside restaurant has just as much importance and attraction for visitors as the legend of the dragon: Délice aux Champignons (a mushroom sandwich).

A gondola trains takes you to the excursion area where Roc d'Orsay (1976m) is found. The cable car slightly shortens the hiking time to Chamossaire. From the neighboring Barboleuse/Gryon another cable car opens up the mountains of Les Chaux; it is another well-known vantage point with specialty restaurants near the mountain station or in Frience.

The also is accessible in summer via the motorway of the Col de la Croix (Bus connection from Villars to Les Diablerets). This facilitates hiking from one starting point to the next. In winter the ski area extends into the neighboring Les Diablerets.
