The railbound funicular built in 1994 causes one to realize that state-of-the-art technology is also found high up in the mountain world. The tracks stand on pillars, so that snow slides can not hamper its operation.
On the Tignousa you will find the François-Xavier Bagnoud Observatory. Here the night sky can be observed (public tours). It is also the starting point of the Planet Trail leading to the Panorama-Hotel “Weisshorn”.
Even the mountain hike to Bella Tola (3025m) is best started on the Tignousa. A famous hiking trail takes you across the Meid Pass to the neighboring Turmann Valley and further across the Augstbord Pass to the Matter Valley.
The two Alpine regions of St. Luc and Chandolin are well connected by hiking trails. A rewarding experience is the climb of the Illhorn (2716m), the spectacular mountain in the Illgraben with its rockslide site sloping towards the Rhone Valley. A tip: The Illhorn Hut (SAC) serves excellent local specialties and offers a view extending up to the Matterhorn.
The two areas, St. Luc and Chandolin, in winter offer a unique, contiguous skiing area with 75 kilometers of pistes and a wide variety of descents.
