St. Gallen

Nestled between The Rhine Valley and Lake Constance lies the canton of St. Gallen. It is a relaxed and conservative provincial city set amidst rolling green pastures between the Appenzell hills to the south and the Bodensee to the north. A gentle place, it's a busy modern centre and a beautiful old town. This UNESCO world heritage town lies in the centre of a green landscape between Säntis and Lake Constance. Delicious veal sausages, whitefish from Lake Constance and Biber sweet dough cakes are specialties of this region.

The Abbey - The Abbey Library of St. Gallen is the oldest library in Switzerland, and it is one of the earliest and most important monastic libraries in the world. It also boasts of the most beautiful rococo room in Switzerland containing a world-class collection of ancient books and manuscripts. Frescoes produced by Josef Wannemacher, stuccowork, and elaborate wood carvings adorn the walls and ceilings of the Abbey lending it a Sistine Chapel'esque' charm. As a result, the Abbey Library and the entire abbey precinct in St. Gallen past the Church of St. Lawrence with it's 'Rainbow Roof' were included in the UNESCO list of global cultural heritage sites.

Appenzellerland - Appenzell has gentle rolling hills extending up to the imposing Alpstein massif and is dotted with many touristic attractions which never fail to fascinate the tourists.
