Basler Fasnacht - The Carnival of Basel is the biggest carnival in Switzerland. Starting on the Monday after Ash Wednesday at precisely 4:00 in the morning with the Morgestraich, the carnival lasts for exactly 72 hours. In this time the Fasnächtler, rallying in the streets and restaurants, rules the old town of Basel. Basler Fasnacht is often referred to as "die drey scheenschte Dääg" (the three most beautiful days). The Fasnächtlers wear costumes including a Larve (a mask). One will find a broad variety of coustume designs. The masks often represent famous persons (polititians or the like), comic characters or animals or traditional masks such as the french army of Napoleon, others called Harlekin or the famous Waggis. Those spectators not wearing a Blaggedde are a favoured target for the throwing of confetti, a typical tradition from Basel.

Baselworld - is the leading event for the watch and jewelery industry. Every year in spring time, Usually held in April, the fair is open to all for a week.

Old Town - Glitzy shopping streets connect Barfüsserplatz and Marktplatz, the two main Old Town squares, while medieval charm is retained in the steep lanes leading off leafy courtyards surrounded by sixteenth-century townhouses. A host of medieval churches, and the majestic steepled Münster dominating the skyline from its lofty Rhineside terrace are reminiscent of old time Switzerland. Districts comprising of the main business, shopping and nightlife areas of the city surround the Old Town. Kleinbasel (Lesser Basel) is more residential and historical than its neighbor, with some laid back nightlife and the German train stations near the giant Messe conference centre some 500m east of Kleinbasel's central Claraplatz.
