Must See and Must Dos
Munot Castle - is perched on a high hill near the bank of the Rhine, flanked on either side by active vineyards. There were steep stairways to climb up and even the parking lot on the backside permits people to enter the Munot. The best view of it comes from climbing up from the main street by snaking through some residential alleyways. The interior of the Munot is austere. In the lower level only the supporting archways remain. The observation deck has an excellents view. On the opposite side the view of the city itself is also beautiful. Leaving through another exit, you come upon the castle's deer garden, located in the old moat. There are over a dozen deer present, lying about enjoying the sun or grazing. The deer garden is most popular among children.
Rhine Falls - The Falls of the Rhine, offers visitors the glorious spectacle of the largest waterfall in
Europe. A trip to the Zurich side of the falls, and to the central
cliff that can be climbed is also worthwhile. It is wonderful to take a
ride on the Rhine. From Restaurant Schloss Laufen on the Zurich side a
path leads past to the Kanzell platform, which is located directly in
the waterfall enabling the visitor a breathtaking contact with the
Falls. In addition, lovely shops and restaurants are conveniently
located above the falls. Besides these
the Baroque Rheinau Minster, on the Rhine's own Treasure Island, the
nostalgic Sauschwäanzle (pig's tail) Steam Railway at Blumberg, the
wonderful wine growing region with charming villages and vineyards and
the old town with its architecture and wine tasting season are very
touristy and impressive.
Schaffhausen Dining
Wirschaft zum Frieden Frommer's - One of Schaffhausen's most folkloric and "romantic"looking restaurants
occupies five richly panelled dining rooms within the thick and solid
walls. In summer, expect masses of
flowers on the building's balconies, and even more pleasingly, one of
the city's finest gardens on the backside, where tables are set up beneath
wisteria vines and venerable trees as a means of appreciating the
seasonal warmth.
