St Moritz is Switzerland's most famous 'exclusive' winter resort. Chic, elegant and exclusive with a pronounced cosmopolitan ambience it is situated at 5624 ft (1856 m) above sea level, in the middle of the lake dotted landscape of the Upper Engadine. The "dry, sparkling champagne climate" has become legendary and the famous sun of St. Moritz shines on an average of 322 days a year. It's glitzy, pricy, fashionable and, above all, the place to be seen at.
How to get there - Take a train of the Swiss Federal Railway (Schweizerische Bundesbahn, SBB) to Chur. Once there, change trains and take the Rhaetian Railway (Rhätische Bahn, RhB) to St. Moritz. The train route through Grisons to Engadine turns with viaducts bridging giddy heights in one of the most interesting and picturesque routes of Europe. There is also the possibility of taking the line through the Vereina tunnel, which shortens the trip from Zurich to St. Moritz, to about 3.5 hrs.

Must See and Must Dos

The National Park - contains a rich and varied flora and fauna. It corresponds to the natural environment that would be typical of the subalpine and alpine regions of Switzerland. 1,400 species of butterflies, 600 species of beetles, 30 species of ants. 4 species of fish, 2 species each of reptiles and amphibians, 60 species of nesting birds and 40 species of migratory and summer birds are some of the inhabitants here. The purpose of the National Park is to offer an opportunity for people to discover and observe the integral make-up of the local wildgrowth and wildlife from as many angles as possible.

Corvatsch Glacier World - The gondola to the Corvatsch takes you to the highest reachable point of Graubünden, St. Moritz at 11,322 feet. The Glacier has increased the appeal of the Corvatsch mountain. The grotto is 140 meters long, and the ice is between 100 and 1000 years old, depending on its location. An ice bar was built up inside the grotto for use on varying occasions.

The Cresta Run - At the Cresta Run in St. Moritz, the term toboggan has an altogether different meaning - it's used to describe a steel "skeleton sled" that may reach speeds of nearly 80 mph. The Cresta is an ice run, three quarters of a mile long, that winds its way from above the 'Leaning Tower' in St Moritz down a steep gully through ten testing corners, past the tiny hamlet of Cresta, to the village of Celerina. The total drop is 514 ft.

Muottas Muragl - Pontresina - Muottas Muragl is a true "panoramic mountain" that provides the best overview in the Upper Engadin across its lake region. The ride through the forest's towering trees up to the overwhelming panoramic outlook point at the summit, at 2,453 m. above sea level, is a worthwhile excursion in both summer and winter. Tobogganing is very actively practiced on the mountain slopes.

Corviglia Piz Nair Marguns is the largest single skiing area in the Engadine. 23 lifts in winter and 7 lifts in summer take you up to the winter sports and hiking area, at up to 3057 m above sea level. Visitors will find nearly 100 km of well-prepared ski slopes and 14 mountain restaurants.

Wellness at St. Moritz - The springs at St. Moritz are the highest-altitude mineral springs in Switzerland. The naturally curative carbonated mineral springs have made St. Moritz a place of healing for thousands of years. It was the springs, which first made St. Moritz famous. A regular pamper package may include bath and sauna, Roman-Irish bath, Aqua-wellness, massages, "Thalasso Alpin", aromatic flower baths, "Bioklima Scuol", nutrition counselling, beauty, solarium, mineral water cures etc. Whats more, there is a possibility that you may receive an Indian hair massage in on of the many spas prevalent there.

Moritz Meats

Lapin Bleu, a traditional Swiss reataurant is well recommend. The restaurant is on the ground floor of the four-star Hotel Steffani. Waiters in crisp white jackets with gold buttons serve regional specialties such as grilled veal sausage with rösti potatoes, venison with spaetzle and locally caught trout.

Secondo - at, Plazza dal Mulin 4, is a trendy spot with a tapas menu. Diners take a break from the region's heavy cream sauces with dishes such as the Corvatsch tacos, spaghetti tossed in a tomato sauce accented with jalapeños, spicy prawns and red peppers.

Marmite - Chef Reto Mathis runs a luxurious restaurant at the base of the Piz Nair cable car, perched at more than 8,000 feet. At lunch, skiers take a break at his celebrated Marmite restaurant, where on sunny days diners take to the outdoor deck, where they are coddled in fur-clad chairs and fur blankets. The menu, with an extensive selection of truffles and caviar, includes standouts such as a starter of lobster bisque and main courses like venison with polenta in a truffle reduction.
