The world's first panoramic train was put into service between Montreux
and Zweisimmen. It remains the only line in Switzerland offering VIP
seating at the front of the train giving a driver's eye view. These
ultra-modern trains are able to give the traveler the unique sensation
of being totally at one with the grandeur of the unfolding landscape.
Montreux-Oberland-Bernois
The first leg of this panoramic train consists of the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois or MOB. Leaving Montreux, the line rises above Lake Geneva allowing a full view of the magnificent landscape of the Lake Region as it spreads out. At Jaman, it plunges through a tunnel into the mountains, changing valleys and heading for the world famous resorts of Châteaux d'Oex and Gstaad. The line attains its culminating point (1,274m) before reaching Zweisimmen, from where the traveler can continue the trip with the GoldenPass Panoramic towards Interlaken and Lucerne. Two different kinds of "Panoramic" trains run between Montreux and Zweisimmen. The "Panoramic" trains with 8 VIP seats located in the front of the train offering the same view as the conductor's. And the "Panoramic" trains without VIP seats. All "Panoramic" trains have 1st and 2nd class carriages. For VIP seating, reservation is obligatory.
Catering - There is a Bar and Minibar facility available on the train.
Seat Reservations - Seat reservation is not obligatory but strongly recommended for 1st and 2nd class. There is a surcharge levied for seat reservation and it is to be paid at the time of reservation.
The Golden Pass Classic
During the 1930's the "compagnie internationale des wagons-lits" from Paris, introduced the Golden Mountain Pullman Express between Montreux and Zweisimmen, a luxury train in the Orient Express style. A few years later, it disappeared because of the worldwide eco-nomic crisis. The GoldenPass Classic bring this legendary train back to life with its brand new Belle Epoque coaches and a wine cellar coach and a dining-car. Besides the 1st class Belle Epoque coach, the train has a 2nd class gastronomic coach and conventional coach.
Catering
In the 1st class coaches a cold regional dish will be served with a glass of wine or mineral water at your seat. For this service a reservation is compulsory. For passengers who do not want a meal served at their seat reservation is not compulsory but highly recommended. However with meals served at your seat, reservations are compulsory in the 1st and 2nd class. A surcharge is applicable for the same.
