The Rigi Kulm is an imposing Alpine mass, 6000 feet high, which stands by itself, and commands a mighty prospect of blue lakes, green valleys, and snowy mountains, a compact and magnificent picture three hundred miles in circumference. The ascent is made on rail, or horseback, or on foot, as one may prefer. On the foothills is the village of Weggis.
Experiences
Steam train and Belle Epoque Saloon Rail car - An antiquated experience! These steam locomotives of the Rigi Railways operate 365 days of the year. In the Belle Epoque Saloon car you can relive the magic of the past with carpets, furnished in fine mahogany and enhanced by beautiful brass and with discreet background music to give you company.
The Gliding Restaurant - The romancing gondolas under the starlit night sky is the ideal venue for honeymooners. On summer nights the panoramic cabin of the cableway between Weggis and Rigi Kaltbad transforms itself into a romantic restaurant. In the magical evening hour, high above the glittering lake, a royal menu is served up while you are surrounded by breath taking views on all sides. The entrée is served during the ascent and the main course is served on the down slide.
Artillery Fortress at Vitznau - The artillery fortress was constructed inside the cliffs of the Rigi as part of the Gotthard defense during the Second World War. For many years it was kept a well kept secret and it was always operational. In 1998 the fortress was no longer needed for military purposes. It is therefore now open to the public. The guided tour takes about one hour. Here discover munitions depots, tunnels, the living quarters and much more.
Rigi Folklore - Yodel ye Yodel Ye Yo. Every year in July, Swiss popular music takes center stage on Rigi Mountain. Seven hours of nonstop live concerts. Get carried away by the music and songs that enthuse the Swiss. The mood is infectious. Against the backdrop of the Alps, folklore is twice as enjoyable. An authentic nonstop Swiss repertoire with many highlights delighting visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. High spirits are guaranteed not only outdoors but also in the decorated festival tent. You can visit a genuine Swiss farmer, Franz Toni. You can visit his farmhouse where you can produce cheese, milk cows, do farm work and enjoy an open-air barbecue. For overnighters, a torchlight walk, dinner, and a romantic night sleeping on hay can be organized.
