The 857-meter climb is overcome in eight minutes. The view down into the Rhine Valley, or straight to the Alps of Tirol, Graubünden and Glarus, and far into southern Germany, is not the only attraction the Hoher Kasten, often called the Rigi of Eastern Switzerland, has to offer.
The decrepit mountain inn on the Hoher Kasten has been replaced by an innovative new building (2008). The revolving restaurant on the upper floor and the panoramic restaurant with a viewing terrace in the mezzanine offer the unhampered pleasure of a panoramic vista. You can also stay overnight.

The Hoher Kasten has been accessible via an aerial cable car since 1964. In a few minutes one glides from Brülisau to the peak at 1,795 meters, famous for its panoramic view. The ride alone offers a fascinating view of the hills of Appenzellerland and the majestic Alpstein. From 2008 onwards you will be able to admire the panorama also from the new revolving restaurant.
Access:
From St. Gallen via Appenzell / Weissbad by train and bus to Brülisau. By car on the highway from Appenzell via Weissbad.
