1st day:
Thun–Langnau (72 km): Perhaps the most scenic stage of the ride begins dramatically with a climb of nearly 600 vertical metres to Heiligenschwendi. Your efforts are rewarded with spectacular views over Lake Thun and the snow-capped Alpine peaks beyond. The route continues into the forests of the Eriz, a charming hilly landscape, which gradually gives way to the Emmental.
2nd day:
Langnau–Burgdorf (45 km): From Langnau, the Heart Route leads onwards through the lush green hills and pastures of the Emmental, with its impressive farmhouses and delightful scenic viewpoints. Here the journey is the thing: there›s no reason to hurry. In Burgdorf’s historic Old Town, you should definitely try some of the many Engadin specialities, including the world-famous cheese.
3rd day:
Burgdorf–Willisau (63 km): This part of the Emmental seems to have barely changed since the great 19th-century Swiss writer and pastor Jeremias Gotthelf made it famous; you can visit his former home in Lützelflüh. See the celebrated local cheese being made at the Emmentaler cheese dairy, which doubles up as one of many battery exchange stations for electric bikes along the route.
