Lake Thun Festival
Overview
Intro
Every summer since 2003, the Lake Thun Festival has presented international musicals and in-house productions.
Every summer, the Lake Thun Festival, staged against the backdrop of the UNESCO-protected mountain landscape of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, presents musical productions from all over the world, attracting more than 70,000 visitors to Lake Thun. Together with Europe's most beautiful lake stage, the unique catering makes the Lake Thun Festival a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Today, the Lake Thun Festival is one of Europe's top 10 open-air musical events. The programme comprises international classics like Evita and West Side Story and award-winning in-house productions such as Dällebach Kari and Gotthelf.
After the world premiere of “The Visit – the Musical” (based on the Friedrich Dürrenmatt play) in Thun in summer 2013, the Lake Thun Festival's third in-house production continued in February 2014 at the Ronacher Theatre in Vienna and played to packed houses in Japan. “The Visit – the Musical” is therefore the first Swiss musical production to be performed internationally.
