The glacier west of the Wildstrubel is flat and in places as much as 200 meters thick – draining direction Lenk predominantly in the Bernese Oberland, but also in the Rhone Valley of Valais.

This highland glacial plateau is accessible courtesy of the gondola railway and so-called Funitel; the breezy glacier railway from Cabane des Violettes (Montana-Crans).

Summit strolls are worth every minute, with views of the Rhone Valley, Valais side valleys and high Alps nicely lined up and standing to attention in the south - from Mischabel to Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Glaciier hikes with a tour guide are also an option.

Train to Sierre, on foot (5 minutes) or with the shuttle to the funicular railway direction Montana, on foot (15 minutes) or local bus to the Violettes-Bahn valley station, gondola railway and Funitel cableway to the Glacier-de-la-Plaine-Morte
View: Over the Plaine Morte to the Wildstrubel, left the Niesen, right the Bietschhorn, below the Rhone Valley as far as Martigny and entire Valais high alps chain from Dom to Weisshorn, Matterhorn, Grand Combin and zum Mont Blanc, with the Wildhorn and Diablerets to the west
Attractions: The Funitel which in part runs 150m above the ground, summit walks with views over the glacial plane on the one side and Valais high Alps on the other
