Pop and rock have been an important part of youth culture and popular culture for a good half century. Pop music tends to be international in character and has made its mark everywhere, including in Basel This exhibition highlights Basel's own regional brand of pop and rock from the first Swiss rock 'n' roll recording of 1957 to the Black Tigers Rap sung in Basel dialect and the role of Basel-based bands in the Eurovision Song Contest. Radical changes in listening habits, venues and media are among the issues of historical relevance to be addressed in the exhibition, including the advent of electric and electronic instruments and how music is “consumed“.
