From the pinnacles of sacred music to Mahler‘s “Resurrection” Symphony and Schoenberg‘s opera “Moses und Aron,” LUCERNE FESTIVAL in Summer 2012 will focus on the theme of “Faith.” Over a span of five and a half weeks you can hear great virtuosos, legendary conductors, and world-famous orchestras exploring the relationship between music, religion, and spirituality.
We have invited both Sofia Gubaidulina and Philippe Manoury to serve as composers-in-residence, and our “artiste étoile” will be the Latvian star conductor Andris Nelsons. Claudio Abbado and the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA will conclude their great Mahler cycle with the Eighth Symphony. And Pierre Boulez and the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY will present music from Ives right up to the present.
