LUCERNE FESTIVAL launches the jubilee season in spectacular fashion!
To begin, Claudio Abbado and the Orchestra Mozart from Bologna will provide a glamorous launch as they perform two concerts featuring the incomparable Martha Argerich. Then Gustavo Dudamel does us the honor of conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the first time in Lucerne. An especially wide variety of sacred music, traditionally the focus of LUCERNE FESTIVAL at Easter, will be heard this year, including such works as Francis Poulenc’s Stabat mater and Georges Bizet’s seldom-performed Te Deum. Mariss Jansons and the ensembles of Bavarian Radio will take on one of the most famous works by Benjamin Britten – his moving War Requiem. Jansons will also conduct a concert featuring symphonic credos by Beethoven and Shostakovich. And what would the Easter season be without J.S. Bach? John Eliot Gardiner will explore the profundities of Bach’s St. John Passion. And the great violinist Isabelle Faust will traverse the cosmos comprised by Bach’s six Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.
