The American Man Ray was a painter at first but then mainly became famous as a photographer. He joined the group of Surrealists in Paris and got to know Meret Oppenheim there too. She posed for him nude for this photograph and became famous later as an artist with her “Fur Breakfast”. The staging of the young woman in front of a printing press corresponds with the surrealist method of combining things that are totally different in nature.
