Hotel Stern & Post, Amsteg

Built in 1788, this romantic inn was one of Switzerland’s first post offices – and the last overnight stop before the ascent to the Gotthard Pass. Famous guests included Goethe and Hans Christian Andersen. Exquisite antiques recall the golden age of travel by mail-coach, winning the hotel a special ICOMOS conservation award in 2009.
