In the Intyamon valley, the “poya” is the annual ascent of farmers and cattle to the high pastures – a scene depicted in naïve paintings on wood that hang over the cowshed doors of many farms. The Poya trail leads from village to village between Estavannes and Lessoc, ending at the concealed wooden bridge over the Saane.

Description

The hike starts in Estavannes-Dessus. From the church, walkers enjoy a majestic panorama of the Intyamon valley (Haute Gruyère).

The route passes through Estavannes-Dessous to Grandvillard, where information panels are affixed to several historic buildings. It continues through forests and meadows to the small village of Lessoc; at the midway point, a short detour to the small chapel of Notre-Dame du Roc (built in 1684) in the hamlet of Le Bu is a "must".

As well as the beautiful poyas, worthwhile attractions include the church at Lessoc with its carved wooden ceiling and impressive fresco paintings, and the fountain with its famous legend.

It is worth finishing the walk by crossing the wooden bridge over the Saane (built in 1667) and the historic stone bridge over the Hongrin; Montbovon is reached after passing the Bellegarde farmhouse.
