Urban swimming

Switzerland is not located on the ocean. But as early as spring, when the first warm days arouse summer feelings, people jump here from bridges and piers into the still cold water of rivers and lakes.

In summer, city dwellers groan under the humid heat in many urban centers. But the people of Basel, Bern, Geneva or Zürich simply don their swimsuits and sweeten their daily life with vacation feelings. They meet on the Limmat River near Letten or on Zürich’s lakeside beaches.
In Basel they step down into the beautiful Rhine at the art deco Badhysli (little bath house) in Breiten, or take a dip in the tempting waters of the Aare River at Bern’s legendary Marzil.
And in Geneva’s Bains des Pâquis they swim in full view of the famous Jet d‘Eau. The city dwellers flock to their lidos and outdoor pools not just for a swim. They also get massages, take part in Yoga classes, relax in a Hammam or enjoy the sunset from the terrace of a grill restaurant. At night, when some of the lidos turn into trendy bars, they enjoy themselves under the stars and let their feet dangle in the water.
